Women’s economic empowerment is widely recognised as one of the most effective means of catalysing positive social transformation in favour of gender equality with wide-ranging positive impacts for women and their communities as well as national economies. Recent studies corroborated by OECD research all come to the same conclusion: economies are more resilient, productive and inclusive when they reduce gender inequalities and actively support women’s equal participation in all spheres of life.
On International Women’s day the OECD Development Cluster held the High-Level Event “Achieving women’s economic empowerment by 2030: From Global Commitment to Policy Solutions“. The event on gender equality, focusing on women’s economic empowerment, and to announce a new initiative aimed at supporting countries with new policy solutions and tools was held in order to launch a Policy Dialogue on Women’s Economic Empowerment in developing countries. The new dialogue will create practical guidance to improve policies and development co-operation towards achieving SDG 5.
